New Citizen Archivist Transcription Program

Post Date:

We are pleased to announce the launch of the citizen archivist transcription program; a crowd sourcing project created to transcribe letters, diaries, minutes, documents, and other records from private, institutional, and community holdings. This program is completely open to the public through FromThePage, a renown crowdsourcing manuscript transcription software.

This project aims to make handwritten manuscripts from the past more discoverable, accessible, and useable for all researchers and interested citizens. Transcribed texts become accessible to those who use screen-readers, want to cite large sections of the text in their work, or find mention of unindexed topics or individuals.

Transcription is a great way for individuals to learn about the archives as well as university and regional history. For more information on this project or how to join, see the Queen’s University Archives’ transcription page.
