New From Omni: Pick-up Anywhere!

Post Date:

Queen's University Library is excited to announce the next step in our journey with Omni is launching: Introducing Pickup Anywhere!

With Pickup Anywhere, when you place a request for a physical item in Omni, you’ll be able to choose any one of the 18 Omni partner institutions across Ontario to pick up your item!

A couple of examples:

  • Let’s say a Queen’s undergraduate student is on a field season in beautiful Harrow, Ontario - a greenhouse hotspot destination! They need a book from Queen’s, but can only get a ride into the University of Windsor (it’s closer to Harrow than Kingston). They can log in to Omni through Queen’s, find that item they’re after (a riveting book about hydroponic tomato growing), and choose to pick it up at the University of Windsor. Queen’s then picks that book from library collections and ships it to U of Windsor, at no cost to the user.

  • Let’s say a Queen’s faculty member is on a research leave and is in beautiful Thunder Bay Ontario. The Faculty member is doing some research in Omni and finds a book perfect for their research on cat’s pajamas. The book is at Brock in St. Catharines, 1,476 km drive from Thunder Bay, but they don’t have to worry! They can log in to Queen’s Omni and place a request for that book, then select the pickup location as Lakehead University in beautiful Thunder Bay!

Patrons will see a new “Pickup institution” drop down box which will default to their local institution.

After 8am on May 9. 2022, all current 18 Omni partner institutions will have their pickup locations available to be selected when patrons choose their institution. OCADU and McMaster will be added as pickup locations in mid-July when they’re added to the Automated Fulfillment Network.

Don’t forget: you can return your books to any Omni partner library too and they’ll ship them back to the item-owning Omni library at no cost to you!

We’re proud to continue evolving our library services and spaces to adapt to meet your needs, and provide accessible, quality service that is respectful, convenient, and efficient.
