Union Gallery and Skeleton Park Arts Festival present #MyDoorYGK
In response to Next Door: A Skeleton Park Neighbourhood Art Project, the Union Gallery and Skeleton Park Arts Festival invite all community members within and beyond the Skeleton Park neighbourhood to create a work of art in front of their homes for a city-wide community art initiative #MyDoorYGK
At the onset of the pandemic, many talented creatives began to display artworks from their homes—on front doors, from windows, across balconies, porches and lawns—motivating the project Next Door, a temporary public art exhibition in the Skeleton Park neighbourhood featuring sixteen original works of art by local artists dispersed throughout the area. Art became an even more powerful way to connect, inspire and bring hope during a moment when we were all so suddenly disconnected from one another—and to engage with art in an open space, at a safe distance and at one’s own pace.
All members of the community are encouraged to participate in this collective action by creating a work of art and displaying it to the public from their residence. #MyDoorYGK is about expressing creativity and responding to Next Door artist projects—artworks can take any form you wish, using whatever materials are available to you! Share your artwork by tagging the Union Gallery and Skeleton Park Arts Festival in social media posts and including the hashtag #MyDoorYGK, or by sending photos to the Union Gallery at ugallery@queensu.ca or through direct messaging on social media.
Please view their websites for guidelines and more details: uniongallery.queensu.ca and skeletonparkartsfest.ca.
