Macgillivray Collection
- Rare Books
- British and Anglo-Irish Collections
The Macgillivray Collection was donated by George B. Macgillivray in 1976 as a memorial to his father. Both father and son were Queen's graduates and descendants of the Very Reverend Malcolm Macgillivray, pastor of Chalmers Church (1887-1917) in Kingston. George Macgillivray, a native of Port Arthur, Ontario and publisher of the local newpaper, co-authored A History of the Clan Macgillivray in 1974. Included with the book collection was a magnificent dining room table that was once in the Moy manor house in Scotland.
The book collection is mostly 19th century or Scottish history, biography and genealogy, including the study of heraldry, tartans, clans, costumes and the military history of the Highlands. The collection is rich in limited editions and fine bindings.
Items from the Macgillivray Collection are listed in the library catalogue.
