Upcoming Change to Omni Login

Post Date:
Feb 29, 2024

As part of its ongoing Cybersecurity Program, Queen’s ITS is conducting a phased implementation of multifactor authentication (MFA) for login access to all web systems running on campus, including Omni and all other applications accessed through Queen's University Library (QUL).

When is this happening?

A first implementation phase will occur on Tuesday, March 5th, when MFA will be implemented for the following QUL applications:

  • Omni
  • QSpace
  • Library Proxy (used for off-campus access to e-resources)
  • Room Bookings
  • Digital Collections
  • Pressbooks
  • ASTM International Standards & Digital Library
  • Digital Theatre Plus
  • Vital Source

Other QUL applications will be enabled with MFA at a later date.

How will my login experience change?

For applications being enabled with MFA on March 5th:

  • All NetID accounts configured with MFA will be prompted to log in with MFA (note that all current students, staff, and faculty are required to have their NetID accounts configured with MFA).
  • Any NetID account excluded permanently or temporarily from the use of MFA will still be able to access the application without MFA.
  • MFA re-authentication will be required every 30 days.
  • Once you have authenticated through MFA during a browser session,  you will not be prompted for MFA when logging into any other MFA-protected applications during the same session.
  • New browser sessions, new computers, and in-private/incognito browser sessions will require MFA.
